As we mark Prematurity Awareness Month this November, we at Mothers’ Milk Bank California are excited to announce the launch of our Online Milk Drive! This initiative is a call to action to raise awareness about the life-saving impact of donor breast milk for premature and medically fragile infants. With over 380,000 babies born prematurely in the U.S. each year, the need for donor milk is tremendous. Through this online milk drive, we hope to increase the number of milk donors and help educate the public on why donor milk is so critical in neonatal care.
When: November 1 – November 30, 2024
Where: Online and at our collection centers across California and Nevada
We invite breastfeeding mothers, community members, and supporters from across the country to join us in this essential initiative. Whether by donating milk online, dropping off milk at one of our 10 collection centers, or spreading the word about our campaign, every action counts. The Online Milk Drive is open to anyone who wants to make a difference for vulnerable infants.
Why This Matters
Donor breast milk provides vital nutrients and immune support to premature and sick infants who cannot receive their mother’s milk. For infants in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs), donor milk reduces the risk of life-threatening infections, such as necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), and improves health outcomes, giving these babies a stronger start in life. Our mission is to ensure that no baby goes without the essential nourishment they need to survive and thrive.
How You Can Participate
- Become a Milk Donor: Breastfeeding mothers can sign up to become milk donors through our simple online application or by dropping off milk at any of our collection centers.
- Spread the Word: Help us by sharing the campaign on social media or within your community. Every share increases the chances of reaching a new milk donor.
- Make a Monetary Donation: You can support us financially by donating online. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps cover the costs of processing and distributing donor milk to those in need.
By coming together, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of premature and medically fragile babies. Thank you for your support, and let’s work together to ensure no infant in need goes without this life-saving resource.
