Unlocking Health Equity: Ensuring Access to Donor Breast Milk for All Infants
At Mothers’ Milk Bank California (MMBCA), we prioritize diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging. Donor breast milk is essential for the health and well-being of all babies, and we are dedicated to ensuring it is accessible to every infant in need. Our commitment extends to both recipients and donors, ensuring equitable access to milk for everyone.
MMBCA is at the forefront of promoting infant health by providing vital donor breast milk to families throughout California and beyond. With your support, we can expand our reach, reduce disparities, and ensure that every infant receives the nourishment necessary for a healthy start in life.
Our initiatives at Mothers’ Milk Bank California are designed to break down barriers and provide life-saving donor milk to every baby in need. We focus on:
By supporting MMBCA, you empower us to reach vulnerable populations, provide equitable access to essential nourishment, and significantly reduce health disparities. Together, we can create a healthier future for all infants.
“My daughter, who is medically complex, was approved to receive support. However, this support was not covered by my primary insurance. I was advised to secure a denial letter from my primary insurance so that my secondary insurance would cover the cost. Unfortunately, my primary insurance provider never responded.
Thankfully, Mothers’ Milk Bank stepped in and offered us a grant from the Human Milk Connection. This grant allowed us to receive over 500 ounces of donor milk. However, when the grant funds eventually ran out, they could no longer provide us with donor milk.”
— Alyssa, Los Angeles, California
Alyssa’s story is just one of many we hear every day. At Mothers’ Milk Bank California, we are committed to breaking down barriers and promoting equitable access to donor breast milk. Many of our medical outpatients face socio-economic challenges and cannot access donor milk due to a lack of insurance or funds.
Your financial support can help us reach these vulnerable populations and reduce health disparities. Your contribution will bridge the gaps for families who do not qualify for insurance coverage and cannot afford to pay privately.
Recognizing the limitations of relying solely on insurance coverage for donor human milk, we are taking action. In 2024, we will establish an annual Charitable Giving Program. By supporting this initiative, you can join us in our mission to provide essential nourishment to medically fragile infants, regardless of their socio-economic status.
Together, we can ensure that every baby has a healthy start in life. Support families in need by donating today.
